All over the mushrooms. RB Ride – Carsten Holler
The first time it was presented in 2007, was placed on top of the village of Pollino in Timpa della Guardia, where you can admire a beautiful natural landscape.
Functional and interactive, the work moves at a very slow moving, almost maddening. This just because the artist likes to confuse and provoke the viewer, altering the traditional mechanisms of perception. The work was on display in the gardens of the Venice Biennale this year.
This car ride carousel modified, RB Ride, consists of steel, artificial leather, fiberglass and plastic colored bulbs.
Many of his works at first glance seem ironic and playful, but behind the innocent appearance the artist insinuates elements of doubt and uncertainty, can change the perception of ordinary things. Here, then, that the small houses to sit become mushrooms, recurring elements in his works.
The installation of the carousel is part of “art pollino” local development project, included in the program “Contemporary Senses”, promoted by Basilicata Region, the Ministry of Economic Development, from the Ministry of Culture and the Fondazione La Biennale di Venezia, which aims to enhance the environmental and cultural heritage of the Basilicata area Pollino National Park.
