Guardians of time – Manfred Kielnhofer
The Guardians of Time is an art project, rather than a true public art installation, created by Austrian sculptor Manfred Kielnhofer. The work has been repeatedly recurred in different contexts and in different cities, always arousing emotions and impressions different, but united by a common thread.
Manfred Kielnhofer with Guardians of time testifies to his certainty: it is certain that all of humanity is guarded and protected by strange characters. The designer and photographer was always interested in the human being as a model, as well as a potential source of danger for humanity.
The guardians of the time installations are the most famous artist Manfred Kielnhofer: stone statues or plastic that are cloaked in hooded robes and located in strategic locations, where they can give the appearance of disturbing waiting.
In 2006 he created the first life-size “Time Keepers” to be part of Skulpturenpark Artpark Linz. The sculpture reminds us that of a monaco. Over the following years Kielnhofer put guardians of time in public places such as in front of ancient castles, squares, old mines or in the parks. They have traveled to different countries and were part of several exhibitions.
In his works of art Manfred Kielnhofer occupies the natural human desire for safety. So his work reflects genuine exploration, examination and discussion of current, as well as moods and sensitivity of the historical social environment. The message is that people should never forget that they are always watched by a power that is stronger humanity.
It would be really interesting to see things actually ordinary people think of this art project, what are the thoughts that go through your mind. Restlessness? Sense of anxiety or protection? Interesting becomes art when it could divide opinions from a single vision. In this case that of the artist.
